Congratulations to 2023’s BC Care Award Recipients!

This February, BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA) celebrates the 10th Annual BC Care Awards!

The BC Care Awards were originally created to honour the achievements of the province’s most exceptional caregivers in the field of seniors care. Below, Route65.ca highlights some of the 2023 award recipients.

Care Provider of the Year – Long-Term Care: In Nanaimo, BCCPA recognizes Activities Coordinator Leanna Maltesen, Woodgrove Manor (Trillium Communities), with the Care Provider of the Year – Long-Term Care award, for bringing joy and connection to the seniors with whom she works with the help of her puppet, “Berry.” Maltesen has worked at Woodgrove Manor in various capacities since 2003 and has been the Activities Coordinator since 2020. In her work, she aims to ‘do everything with love.’

Care Provider of the Year – Assisted Living: At Hallmark on the Park (Baptist Housing) in Abbotsford, BCCPA honours Moyra Cameron with the Care Provider of the Year – Assisted Living award for her commitment to supporting seniors. Cameron takes on a variety of roles within the seniors living community, including providing shuttle service for seniors to get to appointments, visit family or go shopping, organizing games and gatherings, assisting with reception and in the dining room, leading art classes and more. Those who work with her describe her as ‘approachable, reliable and caring.’

Care Provider of the Year – Home Health: Jamie Aspinall of Prince George is being honoured with the Care Provider of the Year – Home Health award. A registered care aide with Classic LifeCare – Prince George branch, Aspinall is recognized for her willingness to go the extra mile in her caregiving duties. One of her clients said she is very efficient when it comes to care, but she does whatever she can, including staying late, to ensure all those in her care have their needs met.

Family Champion Award: S.U.C.C.E.S.S Multi-Level Care Society in Richmond has benefitted from the remarkable work of Irene Chan, honoured this year by BCCPA with the Family Champion Award. Chan has been a part of the family council at S.U.C.C.E.S.S Multi-Level Care Society since 2012, when her husband moved into the community, and she retained her position after he passed in 2019. Chan hosts a music group twice every month to connect seniors and teach them to sing. She also works as a Goodwill Ambassador to fundraise for important projects to help improve and support the seniors in the community.

Awards will also be presented for the Workplace of the Year and the Ed Helfrich Long-Service Excellence Award.

Congratulations to this year’s winners! BCCPA will present the awards alongside The Hon. Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, on February 27th, 2024, in Victoria, B.C.
